An artist who makes paper from cloth had a machine to help break down the cloth. Rather than plugging the machine into an outlet, he connected it to a bicycle mounted on a trainer and used the rear wheel to power the machine. People at the festival took turns powering the machine.

One year they had some bicycles at our State Fair and a person could ride the bike and turn on light bulbs. It was a lot of fun and not as easy as it looked π
The Museum of Science in Boston had (perhaps still has) something similar. They had different watt bulbs so you could see how many you could light. I think I was able to get the first two but never the third.
I tried that once at a museum and discovered I’d have to use candles if it came down to it π
Yeah – I hear you. But have you ever seen how they used to make candles with all that dipping. Let’s face it, we live the good life. Happy Weekend!
At a local market, a vendor makes smoothies with pedal power. Getting paid to do a workout is pretty smart
Wow – That is a great idea. It must help attract people to the business.
That’s such a cool idea…Love the angle with which you took this.
π
Thank you π
Hmm, sounds like Gilligan’s Island… π
That is so true…although Gilligan would have had the bamboo bike. Have you seen they are making some frames from bamboo now. They are held together with some type of resin. Perhaps Gilligan is smarter than we thought.
