Fourth of July in Boston and Cambridge, MA

We had one of the best Independence Day holidays in many years. Boston has a beautiful park (The Esplanade) and outdoor concert venue along the Charles River, which separates Boston and Cambridge. Midafternoon, we took the train into Boston and walked around in a light rain making some photos in the Boston Common and Public Gardens. The sun came out as we crossed the Longfellow Bridge onto the Cambridge side of the river. Cambridge closes down the roadway across from the concerts and sets up speakers for people to hear the music. We spread out a blanket and enjoyed some sandwiches and lemon cupcakes bought from street vendors. Not only did we enjoy the concert but met some very nice people all around us who had travelled from upstate New York and Chicago for the show.

Thank you to all who allowed me to photograph you. Cheers =)

Dh agrees with you on this being the best spot for watching 4th festivities. Wait…he said THE best spot was the roof of the dorms at MIT on the other side of the river.

Yeah, my guess is the dorms are off limits for me. The couple next to us was from Chicago and said the trolley tour driver recommended the Cambridge side of the river. It was more like a small town fireworks (with a world class orchestra and amazing view) where as the one and only time we went to the Boston side was a zoo.

Thanks…The cool Uncle Sam was cool. He was hanging out near the street performers and I thought he was doing this for tips…Nope…Just for fun.

Thank you, Himali. It was a good thing I had my telephoto zoom with me to get a photo of the boy in the fountain without getting all wet, myself. 😀 It was a great day and we had so much fun. Cheers =)

Amazing! Loved all the pictures. Such great enthusiasm for Independence Day, as it should be.
And Third pic, Oh My! So someone is actually flying the flag?! Woah! That’s awesome.
Second shot also takes away my breath away with such vivid intense array of colors. Hats off to you once again, Chris!

Thank you so much, Shreya. The skydiver with the flag was amazing. I have more images to show another day. 🙂 I can imagine jumping out of a plane AND flying a flag like this. These people are amazing. I’m glad you enjoy the second shot. This shows the location where the concert is taking place on the other side of the river and all of the boats are on the water to enjoy the evening. It is a beautiful location for showing this part of Boston. Cheers =)
