Memorial Bridge

Memorial Bridge

Last Sunday, my plan was to make an image of this bridge from the west (thereby facing east) and have it in silhouette. However, all of the places for making that shot on the Portsmouth side of the river were fenced off. Perhaps, I can make another trip and cross over the bridge into Maine to get that shot.

You inspire me for getting out there more. Not only for planning the shots but for finding great places! Bravo to you!
And yes… There will be another day. I think we will all see your other shot someday, one day.

Thank you, Nancy. Last summer, I started to really look at some photographers whose work I liked and their images are clearly not accidental but the result of well planned shoots that often includes shooting early or late to get the best light. Cheers!

Yes! I had a great fascination with this bridge when I was working up there! To be honest with you, I’ve never seen a “vertical” bridge work. I walked across it over into Maine and took some photos from the banks there. Here are just a few. I “shrunk” them down a little to fit with this post. Of course, my photos never turn out as great as yours, sir!

I had to laugh a little when I saw that small boat go under the bridge while it was at the top of the lift! :^)

It is a cool bridge and really a part of the community. It was shut down for a while for repairs and the city was really hurting. It’s good to have it back again. I’ll have to do an “up & down” shoot this summer. Cheers!

I’ve found it difficult to get the right angle to photograph a bridge. One can’t stop on it, and most of the approaches are, like you said, fenced off or forbidding. However, you did a very nice job here!

Thank you. I have an idea for another approach and may try in a few weeks. It will be cloudy here tomorrow morning and the shot I’m planning requires a sunny morning. Cheers!
