Make Way for Duckings

This sculpture in Boston’s Public Garden was inspired by Robert McCloskey’s book Make Way for Duckings about a family of ducks living on an island in the lagoon in the garden. It looks like they have been dressed for spring. You have to get there awfully early to get images without lots of children crowding the ducks.

I’m guessing that they were dressed for Easter and have suffered a bit of “handling” already. I had to adjust some of their hats and such. Thanks, Teri. Cheers!

Thanks, Monica. They are a lot of fun. People often dress them up. When our baseball team won the championship, they were all wearing the team ball caps. Cheers!

When I first visited Boston three years ago my husband to be (as he was then) asked what I wanted to do. See the ducks, I replied. So we did. A year later we were in Moscow and I saw the ducks there too. The ones gifted to Raisa Gorbachev by Barbara Bush. The book is a must read for any child, the ducks a must see for any age. In my very grown up opinion 😉

They are a wonderful part of our city. My favorite was in 2004 when they were all decked out in Red Sox caps. Cheers!
PS. I did not know about the set in Russia – Interesting.

I love this book and still have a copy! I think we do still have one!
Anyhow – I usually love when children or people are in pictures – but with this unique beauty- I think it was nice to see it for its own beauty and glad you went early to capture it this way-

Thank yhou…I tried to get a good image of just the ducks last summer and a little girl came over and began to play with them. She was so cute, though, that I went ahead with the shot and it came out absolutely great. Cheers!

yes – I bet it is cute to have her – and tells a story and all – but sometimes people in the shot can ruin part of the vibe – so I guess it is good to have both – and did you post about it this before – now I sorta remember seeing this before – flashing back ?????
