What a treat, Chris! Thank you for sharing! I love how the colors blend into another and yet that the shadows of the lion make him very distinct in this picture. A wonderful statue! Cheers!

The ones in Boston were commissioned by Civil War military regiments. There was an online piece. I found one on the NYC ones but it did not talk of the symbolism. Ask a grad student a question and you’re lucky you didn’t get five pages and a bibliography.

I not sure. I tried Googling it. They were commissioned by a military group. There are many items in that hall that are tributes to groups of soldiers from our country’s Civil War. Perhaps they stand for strength. That is a guess. Any lion statues in BG, Alex?

yes, they are on the BG coat of arms also, and I’ve seen exactly the same statues in the Museum of Military History… and we have a Lion’s Bridge also with such statues… definitely sth military in the symbolics, this is why I was curious about the Boston library lions 🙂

I think lions are a popular symbol. I think they also stand for courage. Remember the lion in Wizard of Oz? He had lost his trademark courage. Have a great day. The ice fishing is this weekend!!!!

I liked how you have this angle where the lion’s chin juts out, Chris.
I am staying closer to home this weekend, one night with grandies (Lego Batman) and sleepover. On Saturday, guy who I’ve dated since last May, spending belated Valentine’s day celebration. So, your best wishes for my weekend should be perfect! Best wishes to you and cheers! 🙂

It was 50 today. I got out in the ice early, before it got slushy. There are some decent shots. A young girl got a good sized pickerel while I was there. She was thrilled. Cheers
